Year in Review: July 2011...

July 2011

Every 4th of July, the organization I am on the board of directors for hosts a 4th of July potluck at a local park. This year I helped organize and promote it and we had our biggest turnout yet. As you may have noticed, food is a big part of my life too, especially when it is delicious, colorful, and good for health and the earth.

Oregon Country Fair, an annual event in Oregon, is another one of those things that are pretty fun. This was my second year attending and a couple friends and I decided to make it into a camping trip too. We stayed nearby at a small campground and spent one of the days at the Fair. The other day was spent enjoying Pizza Research Institute and the surrounding area a little more.

Another fun aspect of the month was my friend Sara’s pirate birthday party! We dressed up, fought with swords, and did some pillaging of some delicious vegan food.

Val and I were able to finally enjoy a music festival together before she left for Tennessee. We had attempted a couple times before but the Capitol Hill Block Party was for the win! We saw some great bands, ate some great food, and had a little fun.

Year in Review: June 2011...

June 2011

I love volunteering. One particular organization that I love supporting is Fences for Fido. They build fences for dogs and dog owners so that the dog no longer has to live a life continually leashed up. They also provide a house, some treats, and other supplies for the owners and the dogs to enjoy. One day on Sauvie Island in June I and a couple friends volunteered with Fences for Fido to make some of the dog beds. It was a great way to spend the day, outside in nature, doing some good with our time. Check out their website.

After volunteering we enjoyed more of Sauvie Island, stopping by a farm and going on a hike.

Another one of the highlights of June was hands down Slowstice. My friend co-owns some property in Washington and has a huge camping trip for friends to come and enjoy the scenery, the property, barbeque, chat around a fire, and hear some music.

Before arriving at Slowstice my friend Jonathan, who was visiting, and I played tourist a bit. I had to show him all of the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge. I can’t wait to show him more of beautiful Oregon.

I can not wait for the next one!

Year in Review: May 2011...

May

One of the highlights in May was the Renaissance Fair at the school I was a School Counselor at. The children created beautiful art work to display throughout our grassy field.

Camping is one of my favorite things to do when the weather is cooperating. There are several great photos from Silver Creek Falls, and another yurt camping trip I went on in May and June. There are also several photos from other fun things that happened in May and June, like the Japanese Gardens, Lady Gaga vs. Madonna bike ride, and volunteering at Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary so they will end up being individual posts. Stay tuned!
